Mr. James H. Brown, Jr.
Mr. Brown began his career in education as a teacher’s assistant and special education teacher. In 2012, he became principal of the STEM Academy at Long Branch High School, later serving as the VPA Academy Principal. He went on to lead Long Branch Middle School as Lead Principal before returning to Long Branch High School as Lead Principal. In 2023, he was appointed Principal of South Amboy Middle High School, and he now joins Freehold High School as Principal.
Mr. Brown is passionate about creating a learning environment where students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. He believes in teaching the whole child, ensuring that students’ social-emotional needs are supported along with their academic growth. Throughout his career, Mr. Brown has emphasized exposing students to multiple pathways to life after graduation, aligning learning to meet the individual needs and interests of each child. His leadership style is characterized by a commitment to building strong relationships, fostering a positive school culture, and motivating students to reach their highest potential.
Mr. Brown earned a B.A. from Kean University and an M.A. from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He also completed coursework at both Hampton University and Temple University.
Mr. Brown and his wife, Jasmine, are proud parents of their son, Jacoby.
Mr. Brown believes that Freehold High School’s proud tradition of excellence, dating back to 1923, is best honored by preparing students to succeed in an evolving world. His vision is to ensure that every student leaves Freehold ready to pursue their chosen pathway with confidence, purpose, and a strong sense of community.
