Dr. Lavetta Ross
Dr. Ross began her career as an English teacher and cheerleader coach in Rockdale County Georgia. She became an assistant principal in the Freehold Regional High School District at Manalapan High School in March 2011. Prior to becoming a Brave, Dr. Ross served as a District Supervisor of Language Arts and Social Studies at the Perth Amboy Public School District.
Dr. Ross enjoys research, writing, and providing professional development in education. Her published work includes “The Influence of the Student Mobility Rate on the Graduation Rate in the State of New Jersey” and “Equitably Responsive Teaching: Interventions Needed for Equitable Inclusion of Technology in the Classroom.”
Dr. Ross believes that the quote by Nelson Mandela, “Courage is not the absence of fear; it's inspiring others to move beyond it” connects with education today and to her leadership style in inspiring others to move beyond fear to think and plan creatively. Her focus includes building relationships, leading a rigorous academic program, accepting challenges, and motivating and inspiring others to achieve their highest potential and beyond.
Dr. Ross earned a B.A. in English from the University of Maryland, College Park, an MAT at Emory University, Atlanta, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, Management, and Policy from Seton Hall University.
Dr. Ross and her husband Maynard have twin daughters, Mariah and LeAnna, and a son and daughter-in-law, Samar and Aaytiah.
